Steps of Faith

Advent can be so stressful! So many things to do in such a small amount of time…BUT what if each day we take time for one thing that steps us closer to Christ? Let’s try.

Week 1-

Day 1-St. Augustine- “It is by design that Jesus hid the last day from us- so that we’d be on the lookout for him every day of our lives.”

Day 2- The first candle of Advent is the Prophecy candle. We have heard the Good News and we are called to spread it to the ends of the earth!

Day 3-The angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.Luke 2:10

Day 4- “To give someone a blessing is the most significant affirmation we can offer.” Henri Nouwen

Day 5- “Whatever you do, do it well. Do it so well that when people see you do it, they will want to come back and see you do it again, and they will want to bring others and show them how well you do what you do.” ― Walt Disney

Day 6-“Every time you smile at someone, it is an action of love, a gift to that person, a beautiful thing.” — Mother Teresa

Day 7- “Peace cannot be kept by force; it can only be achieved by understanding.” – Albert Einstein

Week 2-

Day 8- The feast of St. Nicholas- St. Nicholas dedicated his life to serving God and doing charity work. He was also known as a wonder worker because of the many miracles that he performed in his lifetime and even after his death in the year 343.

Day 9- “The greatest good you can do for another is not just to share your riches but to reveal to him his own.”  Benjamin Disraeli

Day 10-“Take up the weapons of the Lord Jesus Christ and stop paying attention to your sinful nature.” Romans 13:14- These words were the turning point in St. Augustine’s spiritual journey which he recorded, as a moment of profound peace and his heart was flooded with light.

Day 11-“God enters by a private door into every individual.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

Day 12- “Be tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, and tolerant with the weak and wrong. Sometime in life you have been all of these.” Bob Goddard

Day 13- “Children have never been good at listening to their elders, but they have never failed to imitate them.” James Baldwin

Day 14- On the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe: “Trust me, I am your mother.”

Week 3-

Day 15- Rejoice and celebrate the spirit of Advent! God is near.

Day 16- The power and authority of heaven are speaking. Listen to Christ.

Day 17- Sing out! Lord, may every word from my mouth, praise you today.

Day 18- God with us- Emmanuel- Our gift, never asked for, certainly not deserved, but waiting to be opened and accepted.

Day 19- From age to age- the legacy of our salvation history is ours to hand down to the next generation, imperfect humans sharing the perfect message, trying to live up to the responsibility.

Day 20- We herald from a righteous branch- the Jesse Tree, the house of David, we must work to be just.

Day 21- Be still and quiet. As we await the final week of Advent, quiet the voices around you and find God’s voice, full of promise and wonder.
