Life & Dignity at St. Joseph University Parish

Our belief in the sanctity of human life and the inherent dignity of the human person is the foundation of all the principles of our social teaching. Because of this, each person has the right to all that is needed to allow her or him to live their full potential as intended by God. The human person is the clearest reflection of God among us.

Each person possesses a basic dignity that comes from God, not from any human accomplishment or quality. We believe that every person is precious, that people are more important than things, and that the measure of every institution is whether it threatens or enhances the life and dignity of the human person.

Community Mental Health Committee.
The mission of this committee is to create an environment of hope, understanding, welcome and compassion so as to increase the acceptance of all individuals and families affected by mental health concerns. Members work to reduce the stigma of mental illness, educate about mental health and services available in the community, provide an alternative prayer service, and advocate for systemic change and legislation.

Human Trafficking Awareness
This committee works to educate and raise awareness of human trafficking/human slavery for sexual exploitation and labor manipulation which exists both locally and globally. Members interact with various agencies to initiate and advocate for change.

Anti-Racism Team
This team is committed to deepening the parish’s invitation “to live justly” by cultivating an antiracist community through awareness, education, and progressive action in order to dismantle white supremacy embedded at the personal, cultural, institutional and systemic levels of our church and society. Members recognize and respond to the need for multiracial accountable work against racism, and in that work, unequivocally proclaim that Black Lives Matter.
